Product Details of Sony Fontopia MDR-NC11 Noise Canceling Earphone

Description

Enjoy peace and quiet on business trips with Sony's MDR-NC11 noise canceling earphone. Outside noise is reduced by 70% (10dB) when the noise canceling circuit is switched on. The circuit actually senses outside noise with built-in microphones and sends an equal-but-opposite canceling signal to the earphone. The ultra compact 9mm driver units produce powerful sound, and the Fontopia in-the-ear design makes these earphone light and comfortable.

sony noise cancelling earbuds

Strengths: very good sound quality and noise cancellation

Weakness: Does not last long--I have had 3 and always the sound stops in one ear after a short time.

This product is good but craftmanship is poor. Something on it always breaks after a short period of tiem. I have had 3 of them and usually the sound stops out of one earbud. I have also had trouble with the clip breaking. It is too expensive to have to 3-4 times a year.

Sony Fontopia MDR-NC11 Noise Canceling Earphone

Strengths: Good sound. Noise reduction O.K.

Weakness: Expensive. Ear piece covers come off easily and are easy to lose.

I've read the other reviews and I agree that the noise cancelling is only fair. Most of the noise reduction comes from the ear-canal sealing earbuds. You can tell that there is some reduction in noise, but I don't think the noise cancelling feature justifies the extra $100.

Sony Fontopia MDR-NC11 Noise Canceling Earphone

Strengths: price, brand, promise, small size for travel

Weakness: noise cancellation barely functions

I would not buy again or recommend. I really wanted the noise cancellation but did not want to pay the price of Bose. So I paid a lower price but did not get a satisfactory product.

Sony Fontopia MDR-NC11 Noise Canceling Earphone

Strengths: Works as headphones when batteries are dead. Comfortable, 3 sizes of earplugs included.

Weakness: Poor noise cancel ability. 5 db at most?

These headphones should basically be considered sound amplifiers and ear plugs. You turn on the power and the sound from your music source is amplified. Noise cancelling ability was fair at best on my recent plane rides. I believe the noise-cancel ability comes mostly from the fact that these are earplug types, so you are blocking all frequencies just by letting in less outside noise into the ear...

Sony Fontopia MDR-NC11 Noise Canceling Earphone

Strengths: small

Weakness: bad design, little noise reduction

Very poor and yet expensive product from Sony. Adds noise to most environments, not comfortable, annoying mid-cord "processing unit" cord not long enough. Does cut airline noise and easy to carry around, but do not purchase them. Was not at all surprised when after ~60 days one of the 2 eabuds just stopped working, and greatfully purchased another noise cancelling product....

Sony Fontopia MDR-NC11 Noise Canceling Earphone

Strengths: None

Weakness: Cost vs. performance, uncomfortable fit

I read the reviews both positive and negative about these phones, but decided to give them a try. My experience was very dissapointing, I will be sending them back. There is no noise canceling feature except for the earpiece itself that seals your ear canal. I'm not even sure why they are battery powered? As for the sound, a $20 pair of regular sony buds are about the same. I just can't begin to...

Sony Fontopia MDR-NC11 Noise Canceling Earphone

Strengths: Ear buds reduce noise by sealing the ear. The electronics further reduce the background noise.

Weakness: The first pair I bought, the electronics had NO EFFECT on reducing noise. I returned them and bought another that worked just fine.

The only effect I heared when I turned the electronics on, was a more brilliant and amplified signal, but no noise reduction whatsoever. The ear buds sealed out noise, but the electronics, unlike my other Sony noise reducing earphones and other "10db reduction" systems that use microphones and feedback, DID NOT REDUCE NOISE. Another reviewer had this same experience - perhaps a bad batch of...

Sony Fontopia MDR-NC11 Noise Canceling Earphone

Strengths: Good sound

Weakness: The electronic noice cancellation is virtually useless. Uncomfortable in the ear on long flights.

I already had Sony's MDR-NC10, which I lost, so I bought the NC11 hoping it would be improved over its predecessor. It wasn't! The only effect of turning it on is a small red light on the unit lighting up. You can hear absolutely NO difference in the noise level by turning it on. This is even worse than the one I had before. One slight improvement is that they now provide three different sizes of...

Portable but noise canceling is disappointing

Strengths: Small, portable

Weakness: Noice reduction doesn't work that well.

Bought both the Sony MDR-NC11 and the NC50. The bigger Sony MDR-NC50 has significantly better noise reduction but costs more. For the price difference, I would still go for the Sony MDR-NC50.

Sony MDR-NC11 Noise Canceling Headphones

Strengths: Looks, feel, sound when noise cancelling is on.

Weakness: Sound when noise cancelling is off.

I liked these phones a lot when the noise cancelling was turned on. But the trouble for me was that it sounded dull and lifeless with it "off". I didn't want to use a phone that ran on batteries all the time I listened, so I gave them to my daughter and bought something else.
