Sony SD-MM81

Strengths: Very good resolution and colors

Weakness: Not the quality you would expect from Sony

Even though it comes with a 3Yr warranty, expect to spend a couple of weeks without the monitor plus $35 for "exchange shipping charges" at least every 6 months. Their back light fluorescent bulb seems to die and there is no way to replace it yourself. Very expense monitor and low quality. Don't buy it. In one year I already exchange it twice.

Sony SD-MM81

Strengths: Picture quality, excellent text clarity, excellent graphics, DVI and analog, dual inputs

Weakness: Price, no included DVI cable

Excellent clarity. Excellent graphics. DUAL INPUTS. DVI and Analog connections (only one DVI in, dual Analog in capable). Connecting this and any LCD monitor with a DVI cable and DVI card is a must to truely get the speed and clarity benefits of this monitor. Definitely worth the extra money for a card with DVI out. There is a totally differnt dimension with DVI vs analog connection. Two inputs...

Sony SD-MM81

Strengths: Bright, sharp color and high tech look

Weakness: Self diagnosis function did not detect problem

I rated this a 2 stars but show up as 5 stars when posted. I have the black chassis version. When working, this FPD work great with bright, sharp color. After only 4 weeks, vertical lines start showing up across the entire screen. The vertical lines changes to different colors of blue, red, white depending on the background color. Self diagnosis function did not detect problem. Call SONY and Rep...

Sony SD-MM81

Strengths: Brilliant, clear image even with analog input; Analog + Digital inputs; 2 switchable video+sound inputs

Weakness: Built-in speakers are tinny, but fine for most use

I have enjoyed using the SDM-M81. The display is bright and clear-- I can't tell that it is running on the analog input since it does what appears to be a near-perfect job of recreating the digital data at 1280x1024. At lower resolutions, it does an adequate job of smoothing the input to match the native 1280x1024 resolution. The on-screen menus give three choices of smoothing, but only the...
