I first tried the Wi-Fi Finder around the house, where we have a strong signal, according to our three laptops, from our Apple AirPort base station. Only within 20 feet of the station does the Finder pick up a signal, even though the laptops can pick it up outdoors, across the street, in the yard, on the porch, etc.! In addition, though the device is on and scanning for two full minutes, its indicator for a found signal lasted no more than two of those 120 seconds. I found no signal at work (or else I blinked) just 20 feet from a commercial-grade base station. When I then started up my Mac, the Mac showed a strong signal, and the Finder finally showed a "medium" signal, again, only twice in the two-minute period. The product is useless if you have to keep your eyes glued to it for two minutes to catch the signal. It's faster to wake your Mac from sleep mode to check for signals.
